Vera Bergermann has practiced law for more than 45 years, bringing a broad and distinguished legal background to Southwest Florida. She founded Bergermann Law Firm in 1996 after building a career that spans public service, corporate law, taxation, mediation, and private practice.

Ms. Bergermann began her legal career in 1979 as a summer intern with the State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago, working in the Juvenile Division and Homicide Unit. She later served as a staff attorney in the corporate sector, negotiating and drafting complex contracts for major telecommunications and technology companies, including ITT, Northern Telecom, UNISYS, and General Electric. Her work included regulatory matters, taxation, and customs disputes involving international imports.

After earning a master’s degree in taxation, Vera opened her own tax practice before relocating to Fort Myers in 1992. She was admitted to The Florida Bar in 1994—passing on her first attempt—and became a family law mediator in 1996. Since then, her practice has expanded to serve clients across Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and DeSoto Counties.

Vera earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with high honors from the University of Michigan at just 19 years old, her Juris Doctor from Loyola University, and a master’s degree in taxation from Widener University. She has been admitted to the Illinois Bar since 1980 and the Florida Bar since 1994.

Deeply committed to professional excellence and community service, Ms. Bergermann has served in numerous leadership roles, including President of the Lee County Association for Women Lawyers, President of the Association of Family Law Professionals, and a member of The Florida Bar Grievance Committee. She remains actively involved in organizations dedicated to best practices, collaboration, and integrity within the legal profession.
